Conservation at Deccan College, Pune
Reputed as one of the oldest institutions of India and reputed worldwide as a centre for Archaeology, History, Linguistics this Deemed University is housed in one of Pune's finest Victorian Period Campuses. We helped restore the Main Building and hope to do more.
Local basalt stonework with Venetian Gothic details give the building its exotic appeal.
This stone balcony a feature of the Main Building had fractured and fallen as a result of a lightning strike and needed urgent repairs.
The Stone balcony restored using original basalt stone material and techniques.
Details like the Doges Palace and Bridge of Sighs at Venice make up for the buildings Neo-Gothic features.
Little towers at corners and asymmetrical planning are a feature of the Gothic Revival planning that marks the building.
Heavy cast iron weathershades with wooden eaves boards and simple corrugated iron have lasted the vagaries of time and the Pune Monsoon showers.
The corridors with stone floors, columns and railings are very generously spaced and are in excellent condition.
The bench takes on the details and design of the building and becomes an integral part of the ambience.
An old colonial period watercolour by an unknown person shows the Parvati in the background and the vast open expanse around the bungalow.
